Introduction

Khumo Property Asset Management (Khumo) is a joint venture between Botswana Insurance Fund Management (Bifm) and Eris Property Group of South Africa, and was formed in November 2005.

Bifm is the largest fund manager in Botswana with over P21 billion worth of different asset classes under management.

Eris Property Group-formerly Rand Merchant Bank Properties (RMB) has more than R15 billion property assets under management in Southern Africa. Eris has specialist experience in property development, leasing, investment broking and valuation. Bifm is the largest fund manager in Botswana with over P21 billion worth of different asset classes under management.

Following restructuring, RMB underwent a name change and adopted the new name Eris Property Group (Pty) Limited, (“Eris”). The company name was changed to recognise that the new company will no longer be controlled by RMB.

The reason for the restructure was to facilitate the introduction of BEE shareholders into the business, as well as to allow the existing management to acquire a shareholding. In this regard, the company was privileged to welcome as shareholders Royal Bafokeng Holdings and the Tiso Group through their respective subsidiary companies. In 2012 MMI Holdings which is a financial services group with a market capitalisation of R26.7 billion listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, acquired a 52.55% shareholding in Eris. MMI was founded through a merger of Metropolitan and Momentum.

The joint venture ensures that the synergies and strengths available from the two companies are utilized to enhance the strategy and service delivery to clients and position Khumo as a first choice property asset management company in Botswana. Thus we are also able to offer the same services as our parent companies and we would like to be seen as a one stop property shop. In particular, Khumo has specialist experience in property asset management, property management, facilities management, property development, leasing, investment broking and valuation.
